Turning 30 and I Have Hypertension

Born in 1981

I guess it happens to most of us eventually; turning the big 3-0.  It still hasn’t sunk in fully, but I turned 30 years old this year, and it has served to be a bit of a wake-up call.  I don’t drink or smoke to excess, but I engage in both.  I don’t eat terribly, but I don’t really exercise either.  I saw my doctor this year to get a thorough check up on the occasion of entering into my third decade of life and I got a real eye-opener.  Although my cholesterol isn’t too bad, my blood pressure was 144/91.  According to this blood pressure chart, that’s not absolutely terrible, but it’s definitely elevated.  He says I need to cut out the smoking entirely and start exercising regularly.  Wow!  I went from being a happy-go-lucky kid to hypertension!  What happened to me?  Either way it’s a reminder that though we may feel young, some of us aren’t.  Keep an eye on your blood pressure becuase it can kill you!
