Getting old is hard and sometimes not in the way you would imagine. Yes, I turned 40 last year and with it comes the increased aches and pains. I’m starting to understand why older people want to move to warmer weather.
But I discovered that I am getting old in my thinking too. Or at least just old fashioned. It’s hard for me to relate when my 7 year old comes asking me to go shopping with her for a phone. What? Cell phones for kids at her age? Not as long as I’m her Dad!
New parents today grew up without all the technology that is everywhere now. It’s a new ballgame in many respects. The rules are changing right before our eyes and no matter how hard we want things to stay the same, they won’t.
Kids today don’t seem to play outside much anymore is another strange thing. They just want to camp inside in front of their game consoles. It is a never ending battle between parents like me who want their kids to grow up like I did and the kids, who just don’t understand what is really good for them. That’s the way I see it anyway.
Growing old is tough enough without having to adapt to everything new in the world. I imagine that these new advances aren’t going to slow down anytime soon so I better get used to it. I need to learn how to deal with it before my kids start calling me an old fogey.
